We leave this morning. Trailer worries hopefully behind us (a tyre wore out rather quickly after out two trips to Margaret River and Jurien Bay – after some worries that it might have been a serious axel problem, it looks like it was a bad tyre)
The weather is not the best & there was a road closure between Southern Cross and Coolgardie yesterday, but we will take things as they come.
All went OK – had a lovely drive through the wheat belt. The weather started to clear up and it was very pleasant.
Then about 30 kms outside Coolgardie we hit the road closure from yesterday. There are extensive road works going on and the road was closed yesterday, but re-opened later in the day. There is lots of water on the side of the road and it is very muddy. We had a 30 minute wait until our lane could drive through & then we had to drive through a torrent of water crossing the road – around 2-3 foot deep – but all seemed ok, apart from the trailer becoming very muddy.
But when we arrived at the caravan park, we discovered that the water had leaked in badly and our sheets, mattress & bed were quite wet. But we have turned the mattress over and used our spare sheets & fortunately there is a dryer available to use – so we will get by.
We got into Coolgardie quite late, so have not had a chance to look around, will take few pics in the morning of the historical buildings and then head off to Norseman and on to Eucla (time permitting).
Pic below from Jen’s phone as we drove through the water & that famous pub…
